Worried Your Kids Won’t Sit Still?
Good – That’s Where the Magic Happens
If the idea of booking a family photo session gives you flashbacks to your child running in the opposite direction of the camera—deep breath. You’re not alone.
One of the most common things parents say to me before a session is:
“I’m just not sure my kids will cooperate...”
Here’s the truth: they’re not supposed to.
And honestly? That’s what I love most.
Natural > Perfect
At Sarah Jane Photography, I specialise in natural family photography that captures your kids exactly as they are—wild, funny, curious, clingy, shy, loud, loving, chaotic, and beautiful.
I’m not here to force them into stiff poses or awkward smiles. I’m here to meet them at their level and tell your family’s story in a real, honest, and joyful way.
The Best Moments Aren’t Posed
The giggles as they chase bubbles.
The cuddles when they need a break.
The way they wrap themselves around your leg or climb on Dad’s shoulders.
These are the moments I live for.
And they’re the ones that will mean the most to you years from now.
My Approach with Little Ones
Here’s how I keep things relaxed and real:
I follow their lead. Kids don’t want to be told to sit still, and that’s okay. We’ll let them move, explore, and play.
No time limits. Sessions are flexible. If we need to pause for a snack or regroup, that’s totally fine.
Gentle prompts. I’ll give just enough direction to guide the flow, but never anything forced.
Breaks are welcome. Some of the best photos happen when we step back and let the moment unfold naturally.
You Don’t Need to “Prepare” Them
There’s no need to practise smiles or rehearse poses. You don’t need to bribe or beg.
Just let them show up as themselves—and I’ll do the rest. I’ve worked with all kinds of kids, and I promise you, the ones who “won’t sit still” are usually the ones who shine the brightest in photos.
Candid, Real, & Full of Heart
My family sessions on the Mornington Peninsula are designed to feel more like a fun outing than a formal photo shoot. Whether we’re at the beach, in the bush, or exploring a garden trail, it’s all about connection, not perfection.
And the results?
Beautiful, honest images of your family as they are right now. Full of love. Full of movement. Full of life.
Let the Chaos Be Beautiful
So if you’re worried your kids won’t sit still, don’t be.
Let them run. Let them giggle. Let them be wild and wonderful.
That’s where the real magic happens.
And that’s the kind of photography you’ll treasure forever.
